The neutral buoyancy zone is the state of spiritual equi- librium in which most people live out their lives. Neutral vides fuel, it can resist deathforce gravity and maintain alti- tude.
These forces that hold us in spiritual equilibrium are not evil or malicious and there's no demonic agency conspiring against us, it's just a regulating process that allows us to play our roles without realizing we're just buffoons in a farce, which would kind of spoil the effect. The idea that ego is bad and spiritual growth is good is just one of many motivational carrots for us to chase around the stage.
